How much does Wisprnote AI cost?
Nothing. Wisprnote AI is free and open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. There is no paid tier, no trial period, no seat limit and no credit card. You can download the macOS build, or clone the repository and build it yourself.
Is Wisprnote AI really open source?
Yes. The complete source of the macOS application is published at github.com/migavel508/wisprnote-AI under AGPL-3.0 — not a limited "community edition". It is a Tauri application written in TypeScript and Rust, and you can read, build, modify and redistribute it.
What does the AGPL-3.0 licence allow?
It grants you the freedom to run Wisprnote for any purpose, study and modify the source, and redistribute it — including commercially. The main obligation is reciprocal: if you distribute a modified version, or run one as a network service that users interact with, you must make your modified source available to those users under the same licence. The Wisprnote name and logo are trademarks and are not covered by the code licence.
Can I use Wisprnote AI at work, or inside my company?
Yes. Internal use inside a company is unrestricted — running the app, even across a whole organisation, triggers no source-sharing obligation, because you are not distributing it or offering it to third parties over a network.
What if my organisation cannot meet the AGPL obligations?
A separate commercial licence is available for cases where the AGPL terms are not workable — for example embedding Wisprnote in a proprietary product, or offering a modified version as a hosted service without publishing the changes. Email hello@wisprbee.com to discuss it.
If the software is free, how is the project funded?
Through commercial licences for organisations that need terms other than the AGPL, and through optional hosted services. The application itself stays free and open source.
Where is my meeting data stored?
Recordings and transcripts are stored locally on your Mac by default. Encrypted cloud sync is opt-in, not the default. Because the source is public, you can verify this in the code rather than taking our word for it.
Can I contribute?
Yes — issues and pull requests are welcome on GitHub. Contributions are accepted under the contributor licence agreement described in CONTRIBUTING.md in the repository.
